Newt Gingrich has certainly been making some strides in his presidential campaign in the past month, but that was before Busey gave his two cents on the race for the GOP nomination, and endorsed the former Speaker of the House.
The Hill documented the holiday party for Republican strategist Ron Bonjean, where celebrity guest Gary Busey discussed his political views. Busey is apparently a Republican, and as a Republican, he had a lot to say to a reporter about the GOP race.
Busey is from Texas, but he confessed a lack of confidence in the idea of Texas Governor Rick Perry as president. He instead endorsed Gingrich saying, “I've never met Newt, but I know what he stands for.”
The holiday party was over the weekend, and today The Huffington Post revealed that Busey had retracted his endorsement. In a statement that only only he could pull off, Busey said “ It is not time for me to be endorsing anyone at this time! When there are the two final candidates, then I will endorse.” Too bad, Gingrich. You were so close to receiving an early Busey endorsement.
Busey has been an odd celebrity presence in the recent years, particularly on Celebrity Apprentice. His erratic behavior even led his competitors (and probably the majority of the viewing audience) to question his sanity. One explanation for his behavior is the head trauma he suffered from a motorcycle crash, in the late 1980's. Fortunately though, he survived and is able to now colorfully share his political ideology.
