ABC to air unheard Jackie Kennedy interviews

ABC announced today that they will be airing a two-hour special featuring previously unheard interview tapes of Jackie Kennedy.

The show will be broadcast to promote the new book Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life with John F. Kennedy, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. The tapes, which total over eight hours, were recorded by historian Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr., just after her husband, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on Nov. 22, 1963.

According to The Associated Press, ABC had initially planned just a one-hour special, but expanded it to two. Diane Sawyer’s interview with Kennedy’s last surviving child, Caroline.

This year is also the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy’s administration, which was inaugurated in 1961.

Jackie Kennedy died in 1994, at age 64. The special will air on Sep. 13 at 9:00 PM.
