'Hawaii Five-0' Season Three Finale, “Aloha, Malama Pono” (Farewell and Take Care)

The episode begins with a high-speed chase between HPD and Five-0 members Kono, Danno, and McGarrett. After momentarily losing the cops, McGarrett stops the Camaro, and Kono gets out. He hands her a burner and tells her to lay low.

The cops continue to chase Danno and McGarrett. Eventually, they come to a screeching stop at a roadblock, where Duke searches the car for Kono, but with no luck.

Next scene shows McGarrett, Danno, and Chin at the scene of a grisly murder on an unidentified, and unmarked plane – aside from the tail number.

Five bodies are found inside, either stabbed, shot, or with throats slit. There are no phones or methods of identification on the bodies.

McGarrett determines this to be a rendition flight with government agents aboard. Whoever shot everyone landed the plane and is loose on the island.

A call to the CIA reveals that the plane was transporting Rafael Salgado of the National Liberation Movement (NLM). He is about to reveal the next target location of attack for the NLM.

Meanwhile, Kono and Adam confront each other and decide to work together to prove her innocence of shooting one of the informants on the Yakuza (from last week’s episode).

Back at headquarters, the team learns calls have been made from one of the missing phones on the plane. They trace the calls to a house belonging to Salgado’s ex-wife and son. She identifies him as Pedro Salgado. She confirms the calls but says they were hang-ups. When McGarrett asks where the boy is, they go to an upstairs bedroom and learn he has been kidnapped.

Desperate to find the terrorist, McGarrett pays a visit to someone who may know how to track him – Wo Fat.

Wo Fat is under heavy, heavy guard at an undisclosed location. McGarrett must pass many guards to get to a locked, thick, steel door, behind which Wo Fat is imprisoned inside a chamber cell against the wall.

Upon threat of denying him painkillers for his injuries from the plane crash, Wo Fat reveals the name of a man who deals in fake ID’s and material support for foreign terrorist networks. Interrogation of the dealer leads to identification of Salgado’s transportation.

As he is checking out of the facility, McGarrett discovers that his mother has paid Wo Fat a visit the day before.

Meanwhile, Kono and Adam arrive at a supply depot used by those who worked for Adam’s father. Kono finds a pair of gloves with dirt and blood on them inside a parked SUV. She says maybe they can trace the gloves to the scene and to Michael, Adam’s brother.

Before they can leave the scene, Michael arrives. Kono hides under the SUV. Adam tells Michael he needs a gun. When Michael presents him with one, he leaves Kono and heads out the door. As he sits in the car, Kono jumps in with the gloves. They secretly meet Fong and give him the gloves to check for DNA. Upon examination, Fong finds the DNA on the gloves to belong to Michael. After he tells Kono about this via phone, Michael enters the lab.

Back at headquarters, McGarrett’s mother arrives in response to a call he has apparently placed to her. She is about to tell McGarrett why she went to see Wo Fat when Danno interrupts. They have located Salgado. McGarrett has to leave.

When they stop Salgado, he tells Danno and McGarrett that he is trying to save his son’s life, that his son was taken by someone before he arrived. He was on the way to meet the NLM to get his son back when he was stopped. McGarrett convinces him Five-0 will help get his son back in exchange for divulging the information on the target. Salgado agrees.

When they arrive at the meet, the NLM says they lied and proceed to shoot the boy. Salgado interrupts and is shot. When he is taken to the hospital, before he dies he reveals to McGarrett that the target is Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco.

Max is at the hospital at the same time as the team, and he tells them Fong has been stabbed.

Michael then finds Adam and Kono. A fight over a gun ensues between the brothers, and Michael is killed. Chin arrives at the house and tells Adam he has to disappear.

McGarrett’s mother, Doris, and the team are at the dock when Adam is set to leave the island until all his enemies are behind bars. Doris will escort him to Shanghai and help him disappear. Kono decides to go with him.

As the season comes to an end, McGarrett goes back to see Wo Fat, trying to find out why Doris went to see him. As the two meet again face-to-face, there is the sound of gunshots outside the steel door. Wo Fat tells McGarrett “they” are coming to kill him, and only McGarrett can protect him. As the picture fades on the last scene, McGarrett watches the door, wondering who is coming after Wo Fat and trying to decide what to do.
