Natalie Portman’s ‘Jane Got A Gun’ could be distributed by Weinstein Co. and Relativity

Natalie Portman’s Jane Got A Gun just got a significant boost. The Weinstein Company and Relativity Media are reportedly in talks to work together to distribute the troubled Western.

Sources for both The Wrap and Deadline confirmed the news, noting that the two distributors will give the film a wide release.

Deadline, which first reported the news, states that the producers showed scenes from the film. CAA brokered the deal, and, if it hold Relativity would distribute and TWC would handle the marketing side. Harvey Weinstein knows David Boies, a partner in Straight Up Films, which is co-producing the film. Other producers include Scott Steindorff, Aleen Keshishian, Terry Douglas and Scott LaStaiti. Portman is also taking producing credit through her Handsomecharlie Films shingle.

Jane Got A Gun is about a farmer who has to defend her land when a gang comes to kill her husband. The film is now being directed by Gavin O’Connor, who replaced Lynne Ramsay. Ewan McGregor is now in place to play the lead villain after Michael Fassbender, Jude Law and Bradley Cooper all dropped out of the part. Noah Emmerich and Joel Edgerton also star.

The script was written by Brian Duffield, but the Wrap notes that it has undergone major changes since O’Connor came in.
