CBS takes over TV Guide Digital

Earlier this year, CBS bought half of the TV Guide Network and website for more than $100 million. Today, CBS bought the remaining 50% of TV Guide Digital which includes the website, TVGuide.com, from Lionsgate Entertainment.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, president of CBS Interactive, Jim Lanzone, said in a news release, “TVGuide.com and TV Guide Mobile have the biggest and most-engaged audiences in the valuable TV information category, making them a perfect fit for our portfolio of premium content brands.”

The Los Angeles Times says that TV.com, a social media site where viewers have access to television discussion, is now integrated into CBS Interactive’s portfolio of properties, along with GameSpot, Last.fm, Metacritic and Chow.

TVGuide attracts 16.5 million monthly visitors and the smartphone apps reach 2.5 million users. Its purpose is to provide news and updates about both TV shows and movies. CBS and Lionsgate share ownership of TV Guide’s cable network, TVGN.
