Canadian singer and songwriter Mandolyn Mae released her full-length album Once on June 25. Mae has developed her own unique sound that is draws you in. Her pop rock acoustic vibe intertwines perfectly with her gentle and smooth voice.
With the styles of music constantly changing, the 19-year-old artist said in an interview with GuitarWorld.com how she views herself in the music world, “I can't sing loud, and I'm the furthest thing from edgy. I like to wear pink dresses, for example. But there are real music lovers in this scene; these fans find room on their playlists for Civil Wars, Lights and Mat Kearney, right along beside Issues, Pierce The Veil and Terror. If they can find room for me on those playlists, that would make me ecstatic.”
The album starts off with the single “Here We Are” that showcases Mae’s talent as a songwriter. Her lyrics are relatable and personable as she sings about her love interest. Mae combines the elements of catchy pop and an acoustic ambient. The next single, “On And On” takes an electric and upbeat dance vibe. It still has the mellow elements with Mae’s eloquent voice but has a funky beat that will entice your interests to keep listening to the album.
The next single “Hurricane” takes a toll on your emotions once again with her beautifully written lyrics. The song is a heart breaking love song that paints images vividly in your mind. The single showcases Mae’s soft and dreamy dreary vocals that meld perfectly with the instrumental sound that makes it an unforgettable rock ballad.
About the single Mae told ArtistDirect.com,“Sometimes there are massive things that happen in our lives, good and bad, that can change us in an instant. They leave us feeling like nothing we were before. Sometimes, these things happen over and over, and we live in a constant state of upheaval. Love, God, heartbreak, mistakes; they aren't always, but sometimes, these become our hurricanes."
Mae is scheduled to perform on the 2013 Vans Warped Tour in July. She is on her way to becoming a successful artist with her sweet, mellow and melodic voice.
