The Story So Far and Stick To Your Guns have released a dual EP titled Split, June 18 off of Pure Noise and Sumerian Records.
This appeared to be an odd and unexpected pairing, especially because the two bands are not even label mates. The Story So Far as a pop punk band, and Stick To Your Guns as a hardcore band, have completely different styles of music. Surprisingly, this pair works great together.
The EP features four tracks, two covers, and one original song from each band. The Story So Far covered Pinback’s “Loro,” while Stick To Your Guns covered Inside Out’s “Burning Fight.”
The different styles of the band flow nicely together in a way that if you put the EP on shuffle, the tracks would not seem misplaced intertwined within each other. The EP therefore creates the perfect combination of sad and angry.
It is expected that when putting two bands on an EP together they would, at least, have one song together. It was assumed that this would be more similar to Jay-Z and Linkin Park’s Collision Course. However, the two bands fall short of giving fans a combined track.
