‘Nashville’ promotes three to series regular status

ABC’s hit country music drama Nashville promoted Chris Carmack along with sisters Lennon and Maisy Stella to series regulars for the upcoming second season of the show.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first to learn the news. Carmack, most known for his role as Luke in The O.C., appeared in the final six episodes of the first season as Will. Though his character at first appeared to be schmoozing, manipulative, and a threat to new couple Scarlett (Clare Bowen) and Gunnar (Sam Palladio), he later revealed he was gay and only uses his womanizing tactics to get ahead in the country music industry.

The Stella Sisters, who play Maddie and Daphne Jaymes, have been with the series since the pilot. The girls are YouTube sensations, and many of their videos have gone viral and received millions of views – including their cover of “Ho Hey” which is also the shows most popular track on iTunes. Their roles were originally meant for a 6 and 8 year old, but the casting directors fell in love with the sisters, ages 13 (Lennon) and 6, so they adjusted the role.

The news of the cast members promotions comes soon after the show’s executive music producer, T Bone Burnett, announced that he will not be returning to the series. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Burnett is currently busy preparing music for the Coen brothers new feature Inside Llewyn Davis. Nashville will certainly miss his talent, as he oversaw the creation for more than 100 original recordings and produced original songs sung by stars on the show, Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere. Buddy Miller, who was Burnett’s second in command for Nashville, will take over as executive music producer.

The second season of Nashville premieres October 10 at 10pm on ABC.
