There’s no question that Rob Kazinsky’s character Ben is different from Sookie’s (Anna Paquin) past slew of supernatural lovers. From the romantic yet unavailable Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) to the mysterious Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard), and finally hunky werewolf Alcide (Joe Manganiello), it is safe to say Sookie falls for the type of men that bring out the worst in her.
This season, there might actually be some hope for our fairy princess (literally!). She was recently introduced to another fairy, Ben, who projects a warm, friendly persona and most importantly, someone who appears to carry no ulterior motives. Ben is different from the men Sookie has been with because since he’s a fairy himself, he and Sookie can both read other’s minds – including each other’s.
The Hollywood Reporter interviewed the British actor, who had a lot to say about his character’s interest in Sookie. He first states that he’s probably not a very popular character for fans of Eric, Bill, or Alcide. He does think however, that if viewers give Ben a chance they will see that he could be the best thing for Sookie’s happiness.
“{Ben} offers her a chance to actually be normal for once in her life with somebody who truly understands her. So, I think after a little while if people could kind of get over their hate of the fact that I am usurping their favorite character, they might actually grow to like him,” Kazinsky says.
Though Kazinsky is nothing but positive on Ben’s interest in Sookie, other people have speculated that he may in fact be Warlow, the powerful vampire that is after Sookie. Screencrush threw out an interesting theory that both he and Warlow appeared in the same episode – and how Ben conveniently showed up in the daytime right in Sookie’s path claiming to be attacked by a vampire. Hmmm…
Kazinsky tells the Hollywood Reporter on the biggest threat facing Ben is that, “…trying to be a good guy and trying to be an honest and true person never works out too well with all the other kind of shady characters that you have around.”
Until we find out Ben’s true intentions and whether or not he will benefit Sookie’s happiness, we can at least enjoy his body.
“I think the official word was that I am the most naked character that they have ever had.”
True Blood season six airs Sundays at 9PM on HBO.
