After fighting off a vicious alligator in an attack at a Florida park on Monday, a teenage boy is alive, but suffering from a head wound.
The 17-year-old boy, Andrew Hudson, from the Winter Springs area in Florida, was dragged under water and bitten by the alligator while swimming at Little Big Econ State Forest, according to Associated Press.
While swimming in the park’s river, Hudson thought he bumped a log. Instead, he learned that it was a 10 foot alligator.
"It just came up behind me. I didn't see one all day in there and then it just came up behind me and I felt it and I started freaking out and swam as fast as I could," Hudson said to Associated Press.
His friend, Mar O’Shea was nearby when Hudson was attacked.
According toThe Washington Times O Shea stated that, “He went under and started freaking out, and I saw him come halfway up to the shore. He had blood from the top of his head all the way down and I told him to take his shorts off, put them on top of his head to stop the bleeding.”
O’Shea continued to tell officials that Hudson, “…kicked and started punching the gator. That’s what he told me [happened] when he was under the water.”
Immediately, O’Shea ran for help. Less than a mile from the park, he reached a forestry that provided assistance.
According to wildlife commission spokeswoman, Joy Hill, The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission sent investigators to the park as well as a team to trap and kill the alligator involved in the attack.
After the attack, Hudson was treated at a Seminole County Hospital where he received several staples and stitches to close up his head wound.
