'Friday Night Lights' actress Connie Britton and Planned Parenthood back Senator Wendy Davis with T-Shirt Campaign

Friday Night Lights actress Connie Britton has teamed up with Planned Parenthood for a new T-shirt campaign in support of the reproductive rights of Texas women.

According to Yahoo News the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and Britton - who played coach’s wife, Tami Taylor, for five seasons on the popular television show about a football team in the fictional town of Dillon, Texas - have released a limited-edition T-shirt designed with front text of "WWTTD? What Would Tami Taylor Do?" and the back featuring the web address standwithtexaswomen.org.

In recent event of the State Senator Wendy Davis marathon filibuster against Texas abortion legislation last week, as reported here on TheCelebrityCafe.com, the question referred to on the orange and white T-shirt is in reference to what Tami Taylor would do about the abortion bill in Texas?

Planned Parenthood released a statement revealing that the shirts are intended to help people around the country show their support for the women of Texas” and to spotlight efforts such as Davis’s with the celebrity power of Britton and the strength of her Texas mom character Tami Taylor.

“The character of Tami on 'Friday Night Lights' is a Texas Woman deeply committed to her community and to standing up for what is right for her neighbors and the people she loves,” said Britton according to The Huffington Post. “I have been inspired by how many people around the country have united to stand with the women of Texas, and I can’t help but think that, in this moment, we all have the opportunity to join with and become strong, powerful Texas men and women.”

Though Davis’s filibuster prevented a vote on the bill, Governor Rick Perry called another month-long legislative session that began today according to USA Today. “These laws threaten women’s health and safety,” Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund has explained. “Like people across the country, Connie Britton saw thousands of Texans stand up last week and demand to be heard, and she wanted to stand with them. She’s partnering with Planned Parenthood Action Fund on this shirt so that people all across the country can show their support.”

An Emmy Award nominee, actress, producer, and successful singer, Britton currently stars on the ABC show Nashville and will be working with the Planned Parenthood Action Fund to sell the T-shirts throughout the month of July for $22-$32.
