'Law & Order' actor Dennis Farina dead at age 69

Chicago cop turned Law & Order actor Dennis Farina died Monday after suffering a blood clot in his lung.

Farina’s publicist, Lori De Waal, explained that the 69-year-old actor was in a Scottsdale, Arizona hospital at the time of his death, USA Today reports.

Law & Order creator Dick Wolf released a statement following Farina’s death saying, “I was stunned and saddened to hear about Dennis' unexpected passing this morning. The Law & Order family extends sympathy and condolences to his family. He was a great guy."

Prior to his work as an actor, Farina worked as a Chicago police officer from 1967-1985. Farina is also known for his work in the TV series Luck, Get Shorty, Saving Private Ryan, Snatch and was currently filming Lucky Stiff alongside Dominic Marsh, Nikki M. James and Pamela Shaw.

The notable actor is survived by his 3 children, two granddaughters and four grandsons, TMZ reports. His representative adds that he is also survived by "the love of his life of 35 years, Marianne Cahill."
