Trailer Weekly - '12 Years a Slave'

Set to be released this fall, the first trailer for Steve McQueen's historical drama 12 Years A Slave made it's way online earlier this week. The story follows Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor, American Gangster), a free black man who is abducted and sold into slavery. The film is based on his autobiography, which chronicles his struggles during him unfortunate time as a slave.

Not one to shy away from controversy, Steve McQueen follows up Shame with this harrowing look into the lives of slaves and their owners. The film also features an all-star cast, including Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), Brad Pitt (World War Z), Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness), Alfre Woodard (Desperate Housewives), Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood), and Paul Giamatti (Sideways).

The trailer shows Solomon Northup as he is taken into slavery, and over time, how he adjusts to his life of servitude. Also prominent throughout the trailer is violence, as this film looks like it isn't going to shy away from anything, which is not surprising coming from a man whose last film was all about sex addiction.

Based on the trailer alone, this one looks like it has Oscar written all over it.
