Chrisette Michele has done it guys, this album is truly amazing. I love a lot of her work but this CD right here is just really well put together surely something you can play all the way through. The album was released on June 11, 2013. I have been doing some reading on Ms. Michele and her two year hiatus. She took that time to work on herself and essentially become better, like her CD title implies.
On her siteChrisette talks about being in a dark place and how she had been convinced to sing sad songs and that in turn put her into a sad head space. But on the road to becoming better she’s lost weight, found that happy space, and wrote a book (that I can’t wait to read!!) entitled “THE FAT VEGAN.”
This album in all its glory is a complication of songs that speak of a girl ready for love. Consistently hurt by it in the past, she has many reservations but the hope that a new guy can bring new experiences drives the songstress to keep pushing. Songs like “Couple of Forevers,” “Let me Win,” “Love Won’t Leave Me Out,” “Better,” and “You Mean That Much To Me” gives ladies hope.
Chrisette has a few great features on the album that jazz it up a bit. Not only can she make us relate to these love songs but she can draw us in with songs like “Rich Hipster,” that get us a little pumped and rapper Wale is just the icing on the cake to make it a great song.
Ms. Michele also has songs on this album to help ladies rock their confidence. In the song “Ten Foot Stilettos,” she says “Every girl’s met a boy who was just no good.” “Put yo best dress on like a diva should, walk above it all.” Her song “Still Fly,” is where she recognizes that when she’s out with the girls she could very well meet Mr. Right. If that doesn’t happen though she’s still fly and nothing will change that.
Better is surely something to strive for whether that’s in life or just love. In this album I feel the words suggest that yes, I’ve been hurt many time but there is still hope. I would suggest this Better album to many after my numerous hours of listening and growing to love each song.
Here are a few of favorite songs that you may want to check out: “Couple of Forevers,” “Let Me Win,” “Love Won’t Leave Me Out,” “Charade,” and “Better.”
