Time to check your fine ground beef labels. A Kansas firm has A Kansas company has recalled approximately 50,000 pounds of ground beef due to possible contamination from E.coli O157:H7.
The United States Department of Agriculture reported that the contamination occurred in products sold by the National Beef Packing Company, according to The Huffington Post.
Unfortunately the contaminated beef was already packed and sent out to retailers, food service distributors and wholesalers nationwide.
According to USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service, the all of the contaminated products carries the establishment number "EST. 208A" inside the mark of inspection, found in “Natural Beef,” “NatureSource,” and “NatureWell” Beef products, reported USA Today.
The same National Beef firm recalled 22,737 pounds of raw ground beef earlier this summer on on June 18, for the same reason of possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination.
If consumed, E. coli O157:H7 can be potentially fatal. It may contains sometimes deadly bacteria that often results in dehydration, bloody diarrhea, and in extreme cases, kidney failure.
It is not yet known what exactly caused the contamination, or if any illnesses have been reported in relation to the contaminated meat.
No calls to the beef company for comment have been returned at this time.
