At least nine Syrians were killed and nine wounded in an air strike on a refugee camp located in Lebanon, just across the border from Syria.
The attack took place near the Lebanese town of Arsal, where many Syrians have sought refuge during their country’s civil conflict, according to the BBC. Some of the injured were taken into Arsal and others to Baalbek, the largest city in the region.
“Six bodies and nine injured people were brought into Lebanon at round 1:30 pm on a pick-up truck,” an anonymous source said.
Though the source only confirmed six, the Lebanese state-run news agency has confirmed nine deaths, according to the Washington Post and CNN.
It also reported that sixteen were injured. At least two of the injured were children and six of the deceased belonged to the same family.
“We were targeted by an air strike while we were making our way from Syria to Lebanon,” said another source, an injured women in her early 30s who spoke anonymously, AFP reports.
At least 600,000 Syrians have fled to Lebanon, though the Lebanese government estimates the refugee count at one million.
