Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, the directing team behind the acclaimed comedy Little Miss Sunshine and last year’s Ruby Sparks, have their next project set to go. It is called I’m Proud Of You, which centers on a man whose life changes after meeting PBS icon Mr. Rogers.
TheWrap, which reported the news first, notes that the film will be financed by Peter Saraf and Marc Turtletaub’s Big Beach Films. The two previously worked with Dayton and Faris on Little Miss Sunshine and will produce with The Bling Ring’s Youree Henley.
I’m Proud Of You will be based on Tim Madigan’s memoir, which was published last year, notes CinemaBlend. The book covers the Texas journalist’s relationship with Frank Rogers, better known as Mr. Rogers to generations of children. Rogers and Madigan developed a strong relationship, with Rogers helping him get through depression. They remained close until Rogers died in 2003.
Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster have adapted the film.
Dayton and Faris made their feature debut with 2006’s Little Miss Sunshine, directing Alan Arkin to an Oscar-winning performance. The film was also nominated for Best Picture. In 2012, they directed Zoe Kazan’s script Ruby Sparks with Paul Dano and Kazan.
Who do you think would make a good Mr. Rogers in the film?
