11 adults and one three-year-old boy were shot Thursday night when an unknown gunman opened fire at a Chicago park.
Shots rang out at around 10 p.m. Thursday at a Chicago park in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. At least ten ambulances were sent to the scene, where police had taped off one of the park’s basketball courts.
More than 60 police were reported at the scene following the incident.
All victims were transported to nearby hospitals after the shooting. CBS News reports that the three-year-old was listed as being in critical condition along with two of the other victims.
Police said in a statement that the young boy was hit by a bullet in his ear that exited through his mouth, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Julian Harris, uncle of the three-year-old who was shot, told the Chicago Sun-Times that he saw a dreadlocked man in a grey sedan firing at him before turning his car towards the park where he shot 11 others.
The gunman is not in custody as of Thursday night. A Chicago police spokesman said that it is believed that the shooting was gang-related, according to CNN.
The investigation is ongoing.
