Lady Gaga has regained her spot above the fold as she begins another string of eccentric and boisterous acts of attention to drum up anticipation for her third studio album, ARTPOP .
Gaga’s long-awaited return to the spotlight following a sudden hip surgery earlier this year that forced her to cancel the remainder of her last tour. Having conquered joint pain, Forbes Most Powerful Musician is back on her high horse after a crowd pleasing comeback performance of her single “Applause,” at this year’s VMAs. Though Gaga’s Little Monsters are more than thrilled to see her return to the spotlight, their Mother Monster and advocate has encouraged them to “stop the drama,” and put talent and art before petty feuds, like the one Gaga currently has going with blogger Perez Hilton , or public tirades, like the one she posted about the Russian government . As 2013 winds down for this “tortured artist,” , let’s take a look back at the meat-dress-wearing ghosts of Gagas past.
2012 began with a feud not unlike the ones in which Gaga is currently embroiled, as the original queen bee of pop, Madonna, accused the “Bad Romance” singer for copying her chart-topper “Express Yourself.” Gaga immediately refuting the claims, saying she is an “artist” and did not need to copy Madonna to be successful. As the year progressed, the 27-year-old hit maker found herself in the midst of more controversy. After sticking her nose in the “brutal” breakup of Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson and his moody co-star Kristen Stewart, the singer posed in a wedding dress and shared her thoughts on divorce.
Gaga’s vocalization on relationships was long forgotten when she graced the cover of Vogue ’s coveted September issue, appearing airbrushed . The wacky fashionista , activist for equality for members of the GLBTQ community (and Lindsay Lohan ), and fierce opponent of bullying was harshly criticized for allowing a retouched photo of herself to cover the magazine. Gaga, who was simultaneously battling critics saying she had gained weight , responded to both sides by launching Body Revolution as part of her Born This Way foundation, which aimed to help fans “triumph over insecurities” and inspire “m$therf*cking compassion.”
Despite past harsh reception by followers and members of the press, Gaga continues to build a relationship with her devoted fan base. And as far as Gaga’s future in the lime light, critics and Little Monsters just can’t seem to get enough of the outspoken vocalist. November 11th just cannot come soon enough.
