The family of sixteen-month-old Antiq Hennis was devastated last weekend when the toddler was tragically shot in the head while out with his parents.
Last Sunday night, Hennis was being pushed in his stroller only a block away from his family’s home on Riverdale Ave. when four shots suddenly rang out. The gunfire was reportedly intended to hit his father, but the one-year-old was the only one who was hit.
Hennis was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead not two hours later.
Five days after the tragic shooting, police arrested two suspects in the killing of the toddler, the New York Times reports.
Daquan Breland, 23, and Daquan Wright, 19, were both arrested after a multiple-state manhunt. A witness had told police commissioner Raymond W, Kelly that they saw Wright handing Breland the very gun he used to shoot Hennis, and the chase was on.
New York Daily News reports that police tracked the two men all the way to a Wilkes-Barre apartment, Pa., where the arrests were made. The arrests came just hours before Hennis’ family laid him to rest in Brooklyn.
New York police said on Saturday that Breland has been charged with second-degree murder.
