Olivia Wise, 16, who made headlines for her cover of Katy Perry’s “Roar” and the pop star’s accompanying video message to her, has passed away after a 2-year battle with cancer.
Wise’s family confirmed she died of brain cancer on Monday. She “died peacefully in her home surrounded by the extraordinary love of her family,” her family said in a statement to CNN.
Wise’s mother also said in a letter that her daughter didn’t want anyone to cry at her funeral, rather she hoped her loved ones would celebrate her life.
When Perry saw Wise’s cover of “Roar,” which she made in September, she posted a video message on YouTube last month.
"I was very moved and you sounded great," she said. "I love you. A lot of people love you and that's why your video got to me. It moved everybody that saw it."
The video helped raise $77,000 for the Liv Wise Fund, a foundation started in Wise’s honor.
