David Beckham teams up with UNICEF to help children affected by Typhoon Haiyan

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham is asking the public to give aid to the 4 million children in need after Typhoon Haiyan. Last week, Haiyan crashed into the Philippines as the largest typhoon to ever hit land. The storm affected 11.5 million people and caused the death of over three thousand (as of Nov. 15th).

On Monday, Beckham made an emergency appeal for help.

“Estimates suggest that up to 4m children could be affected by the devastating impact of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. It’s easy to feel powerless in these situations, but you can help,” the retired soccer player said on his Facebook page. “UNICEF is now on the ground working to reach children and their families with support—it’s a race against the clock to reach those who need our help. Your donation can make the difference.”

UNICEF has already provided food, water, as well as health and hygiene kits to children within the Philippines, but the need is still enormous. A week after the storm, supplies are just now trickling into the island country, as the death toll continues to rise.

Typhoon Haiyan isn’t the first time Beckham has joined together with UNICEF. After the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2005, the soccer superstar worked tirelessly to support UNICEF’s international TV campaign.

You can make a donation to help the children affected by Typhoon Haiyan on the UNICEF’s website.
