Disney’s ‘Frozen’ composers reveal their contemporary influences

The composers for Disney’s newest animated feature, Frozen, had some unique influences, when penning the original soundtrack for the the film.

Husband and wife Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez wrote the eight original songs for the Snow Queen adaptation, and the couple is no stranger to musicals. Lopez is a Tony award winning writer for his Broadways hits from Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon.

Despite his Broadway background, Lopez pulled from a variety of music influences, including Disney classics like The Little Mermaid, cabaret, and even radio stars like Lady Gaga and Adele.

Even though he and wife Anderson-Lopez wrote the music, he’s careful to remind audiences that the film is more than just songs and dance.

“I think that the movie is so much more than a musical,” Lopez said to Entertainment Weekly. “It’s not what you might think of when you hear the word 'musical.' You might think of something with kick lines and stuff like that—but it’s really not that.”

Frozen hits theaters Nov. 27th, just in time for Thanksgiving.
