Three unpublished J.D. Salinger stories leaked

Three unpublished J.D. Salinger stories have leaked, only previously being available at research libraries. The stories “The Ocean Full of Bowling Balls,” “Paula,” and “Birthday Boy” were traced back to an eBay auction.

The auction ended on Sept. 23 and saw the bidder purchasing the stories for about $110.

A Salinger expert, Kenneth Slawenski, confirmed to Buzzfeed that these works were authentic J.D. Salinger pieces.

“While I do quibble with the ethics (or lack of ethics) in posting the Salinger stories, they look to be true transcripts of the originals and match my own copies,” he noted in an email.

Previously, the stories were only available at the Princeton library and the University of Texas’s Harry Ransom Center.

According to EW, outlined in an agreement with Princeton, ”Bowling Balls” wasn’t meant to be published until 50 years after Salinger’s death, 2060. It’s a prequel to Catcher in the Rye, which was written by
