Tom Hiddleston admits that he originally auditioned for the role of Thor

Athough Tom Hiddleston is a natural as the villain Loki in Thor, the actor has revealed that he originally auditioned for the role of the hero.

According to E! Online the actor admitted to Chelsea Handler on Monday night that he could have been the Prince of Asgard. It turns out that the british actor was considered for the title role before he landed the role his evil brother, Loki.

Hiddleston joked with Handler about the audition process and trying to fit the physical description of the buff hero.

“I did less running and more lifting things for awhile,” he said. "I basically went from 180 pounds to 198 pounds and I had something like seven percent body fat."

But Marvel executives and director Kenneth Branagh envisioned Hiddletson playing a much darker role.

"I auditioned and I swung the hammer but they were always looking for Loki as well, and I think the closer I got, they were like, 'You should play the bad guy,'" Hiddleston aid.

Eventually Chris Hemsworth landed the lead role, but the New York Daily News reports that Hiddleston is happy with how things turned out and considers the aussie actor a brother.

“We’ve known each other and played brothers for five years now and he feels like a real brother,” he said.

Thor: The Dark World hits theaters Friday, November 8th. Although Hiddleston won’t be appearing in The Avengers sequel, he will be in Muppets Most Wanted next March.
