Amish buggy accident leaves two dead

A collision involving a truck and a horse-drawn Amish buggy in northwestern Pennsylvania resulted in two deaths Saturday.

According to Web Pro News, Pennsylvania State Police reported that a truck, driven by 36-year-old Matthew Coulter, drove into the back of the buggy on Pulaski Mercer Road, close to the intersection of Angel Road, approximately 60 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

34-year-old Mary Byler and her 11-year-old daughter, who were riding in the buggy, were pronounced dead at the scene. 35-year-old William Byler, who was steering the horses, suffered serious injuries and is being treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio, reports the Associated Press. He remains in critical condition.

Coulter's condition wasn't available. As for the horse that was pulling the buggy, officials euthanized him after determining that his condition was beyond repair.

Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the incident, using accident reconstruction to piece together the scene. There is no word yet if charges have been filed.
