Top 10 Things we should leave in 2013

The year of 2013 was eventful. There were highlights and lowlights of the year. Between the birth of the royal baby to the death of Nelson Mandela, 2013 is a year to remember. But, there are parts of 2013 that we can forget or quit.

When making a list of things to leave in 2013, I tried to think of the most annoying, most overrated things that happened throughout the year. Obviously, there were a lot of eye-rolling moments this year and I couldn’t list them all. However, the ten on the list were so bad that I had to mention them.

The list is made up of annoying songs, movies, people and actions. The list is for everybody who was ever irritated by the constant coverage of the said item. It is a mix of everything that should stay in the past. Just because we are leaving them in the past doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t remember them. We must learn from the annoying things of 2013 to make sure that 2014 doesn’t annoy us as well.

After reading the list, tell me what you think should stay in 2013 or if something on my list should continue getting coverage.

10. Kim and Kanye gossip

Obviously Kim and Kanye are happy with each other. They just had a (terribly named) daughter, North West, and are engaged to be marred. I’m happy they’re happy.

However, I am not happy that I Kimye is constantly in the news. Haven’t we heard every single story that there is to tell about Kim and Kanye. It is incredibly annoying to hear about the two all the time. I’d like to hear about Kanye’s rap career not his love life.

Actually, not only should we leave Kim and Kanye drama in 2013, let’s leave all Kardashian gossip there. Let’s leave those dumb shows here. Let’s start new. Let’s start hearing about celebrities that are famous for having a talent. The Kardashians are simply famous for being famous.

9. Social Media Feuds

As celebrities in 2013 have taught me, SMH means “shake my head.” It is a line that they use when someone is “throwing shade” at someone else. Throwing shade, I assume, is insulting someone indirectly. The term has exploded in popularity over the past year. Google shows that the trend hit an all time high in October of 2013. Celebrities are excellent at doing shade through social media. This shade is what starts feuds.

One (of many) examples, comes from Kelly Osbourne. She is constantly throwing shade on twitter. She told Lady Gaga to “eat sh-t” and insulted the fact that Lady Gaga got her a birthday cake. Kelly went on a rampage for a while but ended the feud.

These dumb twitter feuds need to be left in 2013. Keep your issues in private. Social media should be a fun place and feuding celebs are just ruining it for everyone.

8. ”The Harlem Shake”

“The Harlem Shake” is a song and video that went viral in 2013. It is when one person dances alone while everyone acts normally then the beat drops in the song and people freak out. It was a craze to the point that YouTube was filled with different types of “Harlem Shake” videos.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I am horrified of this song. Any time I hear it, I assume that I’m going to be stuck in the middle of a dance mob. We must leave this feeling in 2013.

7. The Hangover Trilogy

I love The Hangover movies. I love them so much that I am willing to forgive the fact that the second movie is simply a repeat of the first one. However, after three movies, it is time to leave them in 2013. We can watch the funny trilogy in the future but there should be no more Hangover movies made. Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug have already had their time to party. No more films should be made to ruin the already amazing movies.

6. ”The Fox (What Does The Fox Say?)”

Late 2013, everybody started talking about animal sounds. We learned that cat goes meow and the co goes moo. However, there was the question that was on no one’s mind- what does the fox say? I’ll answer that. Nothing. The fox doesn’t have a noise. Can we stop with this song now?

On the plus side, it did give us this amazing Saturday Night Live digital short.

5. ”Blurred Lines”

I think “Blurred Lines” is rapey. “I know you want it” as a chorus is creepy. It is a highly debated subject but, in my personal opinion, “Blurred Lines” should be on the soundtrack for one of those Lifetime Original movies about the creepy guy doing bad things. The music video doesn’t help its case at all either, considering in one portion of the video, there are balloons that read “Robin Thicke has a big d-” and half naked girls dance in front of it.

We need to leave “Blurred Lines” in 2013. It is awkward, overplayed and gross.

4. Justin Beiber’s bad behavior

Bieber was a very bad boy this year. He peed in a mop bucket (watch video below), spits on his fans and other terrible things. He is clearly on the naughty list this year. I am team Bieber. He used to be/could be a decent singer. His bad behavior is distracting from the music. I don’t want the Biebs’ career to end this year but I would love for his bad boy actions to.

Hopefully Bieber can start 2014 out fresh without drinking or doing anything bad. We can call 2014, the year of new, nice Bieber.

3.Sharknado

For those who haven’t seen it, Sharknado is exactly what it sounds like. It is a movie about sharks and tornados. I wasn’t afraid of sharks flying from the sky until I watched this movie. It is outrageous and over-the-top like any TV movie should be.

It wasn’t a bad movie, necessarily. It was entertaining to a point. However, it wasn’t entertaining enough to bring with us into the future.

2. Selfies

Selfies or, pictures taken of yourself by yourself. They can be taken in mirrors or front facing cameras. These selfies can be used to show off a cute hair cut, a hot body or really, whatever you want. But selfies are sooo 2013.

In 2014, instead of taking selfies, we should find another way to capture the beauty of ourselves. I’m throwing around ideas here but, instead of taking selfies, in 2014, we should find a way to make holograms of ourselves. Or maybe take 3D pictures. Who knows? It’s the future.

1. Twerking

Thanks Miley.

Twerking has been around since before the 90’s. It is a dance move that cannot really be explained. It is butt shaking and craziness. It wasn’t a big deal until Miley twerked onto the scene. After posting a video of herself twerking, it seems that she is all about twerking now.

However, twerking is getting old. We must leave this in 2013. It is awful.
