It's official: over 100,000 US citizens want Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber deported. A petition on whitehouse.gov proposing just that reached over 100,000 signatures in just six days, enough signatures to prompt a response from President Obama.
NBC News reports that the petition, created on Jan. 23 following the singer's DUI arrest in Miami Beach, had accrued over 110,000 signatures by Wednesday afternoon.
Since 100,000 is the required amount of signatures to prompt a response from the White House, it seems that President Obama will be forced to weigh in on the matter sometime soon.
According to the LA Times, although the 19-year-old singer has been accused of breaking the law, it's unlikely he'll be deported. Despite pending DUI, vandalism, and, most recently, assault charges, nothing he's done warrants deportation.
But, clearly, many Americans hope there's still a chance.
"We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture," the petition reads. "We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive and drug-abusing Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked. He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nation's youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society."
Even after the petition reached 100,000 signatures, Bieber ran into more trouble with the law. He turned himself in on Wednesday to the Toronto authorities for assaulting a limo driver.
Although the petition will likely get anything accomplished, it's difficult not to look forward to Obama's response. It certainly warrants some sort of televised speech.
