Amazon planning to add music streaming service to Amazon Prime (Report)

Amazon is already competing with Netflix when it comes to streaming video and could soon enter the Internet TV world dominated by Roku and Apple TV. Now, it is reportedly looking into entering the music streaming realm, which would put the internet giant in an already packed field of competition.

On Thursday, Re/Code reported that Amazon has already started talking to the major music labels about launching an unlimited music subscription service. A source for the site said that the deal is far from done, since Amazon is hoping for a significant discount from the labels, in comparison to what Spotify, Beats and Pandora pay to carry music.

The streaming service is expected to be bundled with the Amazon Prime service, which already includes Amazon’s Prime Instant Video service. It also includes two-day shipping and currently costs $79 a year.

This new service could also be why Amazon is considering raising the price of Prime by as much as $40.

Amazon is also reportedly preparing a TV set-top box, similar to Roku and Apple TV.

Amazon did not comment on the news.
