Atlanta Braves' Freddie Freeman signs eight-year contract extension

Freddie Freeman, the Atlanta Braves first baseman, has just signed an eight-year extension worth $135 million. A deal that will keep the 24-year-old in a Braves uniform through the 2021 season.

Since entering the league in 2010 Freeman has improved every year, finishing last season with a .319 batting average. He was a member of the 2013 National League All-Star team and has proven himself as one of the leading first basemen in the league.

With this new deal earning Freeman $16.9 million a year, the Braves clearly believe in him. According to espn Braves general manager, Frank Wren, said, “Freddie has established himself as one of the best young talents in the game. We are excited to sign one of our own homegrown players to a contract that will keep him in a Braves uniform for the next eight seasons."

Freeman is considered an important asset to the Braves and the future of the organization. According to a sbnation the Braves’ farm system is not expected to supply much help at first base in the future.
