A customer has filed a lawsuit aimed at Mt. Gox over its closure and inability to protect itself from being hacked, which have lead to millions in losses.
The suit by Gregory Greene in Chicago's U.S. District Court and alleges that the bitcoin exchange and CEO Mark Karpeles are at fault for fraud and negligence as Mt. Gox was not properly protected, reports Reuters.
The plaintiff is frustrated with the Tokyo-based exchange's actions as it halted trading after discovering the hacking and security problems. With Mt. Gox shutdown, millions more were lost for customers as they were unable to do any trading as the value of bitcoins fell.
Greene said, "Mt. Gox intentionally and knowingly failed to provide its users with the level of security protection for which they paid."
Greene, who estimates his bitcoins to have been valued at $25,000 is looking to make the lawsuit a class action to include others who lost money through trading on Mt. Gox.
Mt. Gox shuttered the site on Monday and updated the site a day later to let customers know the closure was to try and "protect the site and our users."
It is believed that about 744,000 bitcoins were stolen from a hack that exploited coding issues.
