NMSU suspends player after postgame brawl

Following a brawl when fans stormed the court on Thursday, New Mexico State University has suspended guard K.C. Ross-Miller.

According to ESPN, the guard was suspended on Friday morning for instigating a fight between the Aggies and Utah Valley.

The Bleacher Report noted that Ross-Miller threw a basketball at Utah Valley's Holton Hunsaker as time expired in the Wolverines’66-61 overtime victory.

Immediately after that, Utah Valley fans ran onto the court and created a chaotic situation.

However, Ross-Miller’s cheap shot did not go unnoticed and New Mexico decided to suspend him for it.

"No matter what provoked KC what he did was inexcusable and hence the suspension," said coach Marvin Menzies. "It is an honor and a privilege to wear an Aggie uniform and a responsibility comes with that privilege. I will wait until I've had a chance to talk with our conference officials and university administration before any other disciplinary actions may or may not be taken.”

There has long been a debate about whether or not fans should be allowed to rush the court after their team wins a game.

Many universities say that safety is always a big concern when it happens, yet the schools still allow fans to do so. If the universities were serious about putting an end to the tradition then one school would have to step up and implement a policy against it and see if other universities follow suit.
