New documents surrounding former U.S. President Bill Clinton’s administration are beginning to be released.
According to USA Today, archivists released thousands of documents and records pertaining to Clinton and his wife, Hilary Rodham Clinton’s activities during their time in office on Friday.
Some of the documents include the former first lady’s involvement with the health care task force she chaired in 1993. Also, the 4,000 pages of records include her involvement with children, women’s rights and micro-credit for underdeveloped countries.
Overall, the number of documents to be released within the next few weeks may total up 30,000 pages.
This comes quickly after Politico reported that thousands of Clinton documents were being unreleased to the public although it had been over a decade since the president left the office. The legal restriction period ended in January 2013 making it legal to post the records.
As of now, the William J. Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Ark. has posted the new documents on its website and made physical copies available for the institution.
However, the delay in releasing the document was because they involved “appointments to federal office and confidential advice among the President and his advisors,” a statement from the National Archives and Records Administration, said.
The statement also said that when the disclosures expired in 2013, the National Archives notified Clinton and President Obama “so that they may conduct a privilege review of the records.”
“As they complete their review, NARA is able to make the records available,” the statement added.
Apparently within the documents are records of the investigated terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 comparing them to counter-terrorism actions that occurred during the Clinton administration.
