Grind TV reports that Hamilton, who lost her arm at 13 from a shark attack, was able to beat out a surge of professional female surfers to take the lead.
Hamilton was able to overcome 3 to 4 feet waves, given no assistance or special privileges. Her powerful turns helped her to score big, despite the location being known for its sharp coral reefs.
Hamilton defeated Moana Jones, who took second, and Sayuri Hashimoto and Pax McGill who too third and fourth respectively.
Hamilton's story became well known after her shark attack inspired the film Soul Surfer, Annasophia Robb playing Hamilton.
Hamilton expressed her excitement for the win on her Facebook page.
"It feels good to surf & compete well; & take the win!" Hamilton wrote.
Hamilton, along with Paralympian Mallory Weggemann, spoke to Huffington Post about the documentary, The Current, which premiered on EPIX earlier this month.
In the documentary, Hamilton spoke about how much surfing meant to her.
"To lose surfing was a bigger fear than to be fearful of sharks," Hamilton said.
