Canadian courthouse shooting leaves one dead, police officer injured

One man was shot and killed after he opened fire in a Canadian courthouse on Friday and injured a police officer.

The Associated Press reports that a man went into the courthouse just outside of Toronto and began to shoot his weapon. He injured one police officer before he was shot dead.

The injured officer was immediately taken to a nearby hospital.

According to the Huffington Post Canada, the shooting happened by the courthouse’s lobby. Several in the building reported that they heard four or five shots.

Many individuals who were at the courthouse at the time went to Twitter to talk about what they were seeing.

Alex Anderson, 22, was also present at the time of the shooting.

“I heard one shot and I didn’t think too much of it, I looked around and a lot of people froze,” Anderson said. “Then a series of shorts [went off] that just went two, three, four, five. In that process, people were running.”

Anderson stated that, on his way out, he saw a woman crying on the phone who claimed to have seen the entire shooting.
