After a thorough investigation, the Department of Justice will rule to clear the FBI agent that shot and killed Ibragim Todashev, one of the men connected to the Boston Marathon bombing.
The investigation ruled that the FBI agent was justified in using deadly force on Todashev, reports the Washington Post.
Officials concluded that the agent, who is unidentified, acted in self-defense after Todashev, 27, attacked him with a metal pole during an interrogation. According to the Boston Globe, Todashev was going to sign a confession which would involve him in an unsolved triple murder from 2011. Until now, the three deaths were assumed to have been part of a bad drug deal.
Todashev’s family remains confident that Todashev did nothing wrong. They also believe that he was unarmed at the time of the incident.
At this time, there is a separate investigation still underway by Florida prosecutor Jeffrey Ashton. Ashton stated that it will likely be completely reviewed and released by Tuesday.
