New study suggests that women with more pregnancies face more cardiovascular problems

A new study shows that women who birth four babies or more could face higher chances of heart disease, a new study suggests.

Times of India reports that women who have fewer pregnancies have less of a chance of the mother having plaque in their heart or thickened arteries.

These early signs of cardiovascular disease were published in a paper from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and is set to be presented at the American College of Cardiology’s 63rd Annual Scientific Session.

Although the study suggests that more children could possibly be harmful to the mother’s heart health, it does not suggest that women should stick to having only one or two kids.

Monika Sanhavi, M.D., chief cardiology fellow at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and lead investigator of the study, said, “This is not a recommendation for women to only have two or three children.”

“Our findings add to the growing body of evidence that the changes associated with pregnancy may provide insight into a woman’s future cardiovascular risk and deserves further attention,” she added.
