Oprah Winfrey recently revealed that she will be selling Harpo Studios, the original studio for The Oprah Winfrey Show from 1990 through 2011.
Fox News reports that the talk-show host and TV personality will be selling Harpo Studios to a developer. The 3.5-acre campus is home to jobs of roughly 200 people and is selling for about $32 million.
“We have entered into a purchasing agreement with Sterling Bay for the four-building Harpo Studios campus in Chicago’s West Loop,” Harpo told Crain’s Chicago Business.
“We expect the transaction to be closed in 30 days. The property will be leased back to Harpo for two years and the studio will continue to produce programming for OWN.”
Former Chicago mayor, Richard Daley, named the street outside Harpo Studios “Oprah Winfrey Way” in 2011 to acknowledge Winfrey’s success and growth as a television talk show host throughout the years. Winfrey is credited to have helped transform Chicago's West Loop from gritty and underdeveloped to a thriving area with plenty of restaurants and nightlife.
