'Our America with Lisa Ling' cancelled by OWN

Oprah Winfrey's network, OWN, cancels the documentary series Our America with Lisa Ling.

The Wrap reports that OWN has cancelled Lisa Ling's documentary series after five seasons.

The fifth and final season of Our America will consist of 10 episodes, and will premier May 29 at 10 p.m. on OWN.

"It has been an honor to be part of the launch and success of OWN and I am exceptionally grateful to the network and to Oprah for allowing me to produce the show of my dreams," Ling said.

The series was produced by part2pictures, with Ling, David Shadrack Smith, and Amy Bucher serving as executive producers.

Deadline reports that Our America premiered in February 2011, and after the end of it's final season, would have aid a total of 44 episodes.

The show premiered when OWN was at its beginning stages. When the network was showing poor ratings, Our America brought in strong numbers as well as critic approval.

The series was aimed at empowering women, and served as an aid for them to better their lives.

The upcoming season will feature topics like ADHD in American families, the largest foster care system in the country, gun violence in Philadelphia, criminal informants, and more.

"Lisa Ling's top-notch journalistic work is the best in the industry, and we can't wait to see her soar in her next chapter," OWN president Erik Logan said.
