Patton Oswalt parodies 'True Detective' in Comedy Central promo

It's become something of a trend by now to parody HBO's latest hit series True Detective, and Patton Oswalt gave his take on it in a promotion for his upcoming Comedy Central special Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time.

As Variety notes, Oswalt has made his devotion to the series clear through a series of tweets about it since it premiered in January.

In the clip, Oswalt plays Matthew McConaughey's character Rust Cohle, adopting his best Southern twang and taking puffs from a cigarette and fiddling with a "Big Hug Mug."

In particular, he recreates an interrogation scene from the series, turning the character's drunken philosophical musings into a nonsensical and hilarious bit that confounds the two detectives. He even insists the world is five dimensions, one of those dimensions being "cinnamon smell."

Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time previously aired on EPIX and is available on its site, but the launch didn't go to well, causing the comedian to regret his partnership with the station, going so far as to call them "completely incompetent."

The AV Club reports that Oswalt's latest comedy special will premiere on Comedy Central on April 6 at 10 p.m. It'll be available in a CD/DVD package on April 8.
