Even though Sunday’s game between the San Jose Sharks and the New York Rangers didn’t bring in a high number of goals, it sure did bring some disappointment to the blueshirts.
They did, however, have 41 shots on goal but couldn’t manage to put the puck past Antii Niemi, who played his strongest game of the season, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The first period brought the first goal for the Sharks. Logan Couture made an unassisted, short-handed goal at 11:48—unknowingly, this would be the last goal of the entire game, none-the-less the period.
Not just the players, but everyone in the garden experienced the second period devastation. What seemingly was a goal made by Carl Hagelin, went under review and didn’t count, despite the discontent of fans at Madison Square Garden and what looked like the puck crossing the line before the whistle blew.
It was anyone’s game—Lundqvist was ready to break Mike Richter’s game winning record while San Jose was ready to make this their sixth win in a row, as reported by The San Jose Mercury News .
The third period ran out and the score remained 1-0, as the Sharks and Niemi walked away with a shutout. The Rangers played a solid game throughout but came up short, whether or not they agree or disagree with Hagelin’s goal discrepancy.
The New York Rangers will face the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday at 7:30—who knows, it could result in Lundqvist’s 301st win.
