Robin Thicke has pulled out of performing at the Canadian Juno awards in Winnipeg on Sunday night after being put on “mandatory vocal rest”.
The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced on Sunday morning that Robin Thicke would not be performing because he was placed on “mandatory vocal rest”. He was forced to postpone shows on Friday and Saturday for the same reason, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“This morning's announcement will not impact what is looking to be a hell of a show,” the show’s executive producer, John Brunton said, reports CBC News. “If rehearsals are any indication, viewers will be treated to a fantastic broadcast, and a few surprises as well.”
Despite being nominated for three Juno awards, an online petition had emerged earlier in the weekend to ban Thicke from performing at the show. The petition received over 1,800 signatures.
The petition states that there is “blatant sexism, degradation of women and promotion of rape culture” in Robin Thicke’s song and music video, “Blurred Lines”.
The Juno awards airs tonight at 8 p.m. CT on CTV.
