The show won't be going on for Broadway play The Velocity of Autumn, as the producers announced on Tuesday that come Sunday, the play will close.
The show has had a little less than five weeks of performances, but struggled with low attendance and mixed reviews. According to The New York Times, Velocity will shutter with a loss for investors of the play.
The play was by Eric Coble and starred Oscar winner Estelle Parsons and Tony winner Stephen Spinella. Molly Smith helmed the drama. Velocity of Autumn revolved around an elderly woman who refused to leave her apartment, despite her children's attempts. She is resistant to the idea and threatens to blow the apartment up.
The Tony Awards nominations were announced on Tuesday, just hours before the news of Velocity's closure. The final nail in the coffin for the play was likely the failure to secure several nominations. Parsons received the lone nomination, for best performance by an actress in a leading role.
The most-nominated play was for Act One, which received five nominations, including best performance by an actor in a lead role for Tony Shaloub and best scenic design for Beowulf Boritt.
