University of Connecticut's junior forward DeAndre Daniels announced on Friday that he is entering this year’s NBA draft.
Daniels could be taken late in the first round of the draft. If he’s not taken in the first round, then he should be taken early in the second round. He is the 28th overall draft prospect in this year’s draft class on DraftExpress.com, according to Yahoo Sports, which first reported the news.
"I just felt like this was the right time for me," Daniels said. "I sat down with my family and we discussed it and everyone agreed, but the final decision was still mine and it was hard. I had a great career at UConn and I wouldn't change it for the world, and to go out on top like we did makes it even better."
This past season Daniel helped lead UConn to a national championship. He averaged 13.1 points and 6 rebounds per game, according to USA Today. He led the Huskies in rebounding. In the NCAA tournament Daniels averaged 16 points and 7.2 rebounds. He shot .487 overall and .857 from the free throw line.
Daniels isn’t the only player that the Huskies are losing. The Huskies are also losing star guard Shabazz Napier, Niels Giffey, Lasan Kromah, and Tyler Olander, who are all seniors, ESPN notes. Junior guard Ryan Boatright will return to the Huskies. Guards Terrence Samuel and Omar Calhoun are also returning for the Huskies.
