Jason Voorhees may be coming to the small screen with an hour-long series. The Friday the 13th horror franchise is going to get a television series, just as Paramount gets working on a new movie.
Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment are developing the project with original Friday director SEan S. Cunningham on board to executive produce. According to Deadline, Terminator’s Bill Basso and Jordu Schell of Avatar are writing the script with Roy Knyrim of Gods and Monsters already assigned to work on the very important make-up for the series.
The plot will be set in modern day with the characters of Crystal Lake having to deal with the return of Jason, plus members of his crazy family.
The news of the series comes just over a week after TheWrap reported that V/H/S director David Bruckner was assigned to hel Paramount’s reboot of the series. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes is onboard to co-produce.
It will be the second time Paramount will an attempt a reboot, as Marcus Nispel directed a 2009 edition. That film did not earn enough to deserve a follow-up.
The Friday The 13th series is one of the cornerstone franchises in the horror world, beginning with the 1980 film. The Jason character, who has become the franchise’s icon, wasn’t introduced until the second film.
The new Friday reboot will open on March 13, 2015, which, of course, is a Friday.
