Senior Vice President of Google and chief of Google+ Vic Gundotra announced on Thursday that he was stepping down from the company.
Gundotra, who has been with Google for eight years, made the announcement aptly through a Google+ post. In the post, he didn't explain what his next plans were only noting that "it is time for a new journey."
According to the Los Angeles Times, Gundotra also didn't specify a reason for his departure. He only noted that after his wife's uncle's passing that it made him think about things and he decided it was time to move on to something else.
Gundotra thanked Google co-founder Larry Page for all his assistance during Gundotra's time with the company.
GigaOM reports that the new head of Google+ will be Dave Besbris, who currently is the vice president of engineering. Besbris' promotion means that for whatever reason, Bradley Horowitz, Google+ product vice president, was passed over.
