Former Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr., has been moved to a prison camp in Montgomery, Ala. from a federal prison facility in North Carolina, after getting into a dispute with prison officials.
The former Illinois Rep., 49, was transferred to a minimum-security federal prison in Montgomery, after being placed in solitary confinement at the North Carolina prison, according to ABC.
Jackson had attempted to tell other inmates about their rights in prison, when a guard “took exception” to that, a source told The Chicago Sun Times. He was then placed in solitary confinement for four to five days, before requesting to be transferred to FPC Montgomery.
Jackson served in Congress from 1995 up until his resignation in 2012. He went to prison last October, after being found guilty of illegally using campaign money.
He is currently serving a 2 ½ year sentence and is set to be released on Dec. 31, 2015.
Jackson has been getting visits from his father, Rev. Jesse Jackson, as well as other family members including his wife Sandi and their two children.
“He’s been very disciplined in his health-recovery regimen,” Rev. Jackson said. “He’s been doing a lot of reading and writing.”
