Online dating platform OkCupid has put up a wall for Mozilla Firefox users, informing them that Firefox’s current CEO is against rights for LGBT couples.
According to Tech Crunch, the message is only viewable by those who are using Firefox and links users to websites for Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Opera, and Safari, for alternative web browsing options.
Mozilla’s new CEO, Brendan Eich, was appointed on March 24 and ever since that day, there was been opposition against proponents of equal rights.
According to Gizmodo, Eich donated $1000 in support of Proposition 8 in 2008, a California bill that changed the legal definition of marriage as a union between a man and woman, thus making countless marriages between same-sex couples null and stopping plans for said couples in the future.
Despite Eich’s obvious disapproval of equal rights, Mozilla has stated that they are a company that believes in equal rights.
“Mozilla's mission is to make the Web more open so that humanity is stronger, more inclusive and more just. This is why Mozilla supports equality for all, including marriage equality for LGBT couples. No matter who you are or who you love, everyone deserves the same rights and to be treated equally,” Mozilla said in a statement.
While OkCupid admits there are bigger issues than CEOs such as a Brendan Eich, this is still a prominent issue and despite Mozilla’s statement, the note remains in place on Firefox browsers.
It should be noted that users can simply bypass the note and continue on to OkCupid using Mozilla, even if they do not download a new browser.
The note reads as follows:

Mozilla’s new CEO, Brendan Eich, is an opponent of equal rights for gay couples. We would therefore prefer that our users not use Mozilla software to access OkCupid.
