Steven Spielberg has set his eyes on a new project to add to his list - a movie adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s novel, The BFG.
Teaming up with Melissa Mathison, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial screenwriter once more, they plan to bring the 1982 children’s book to life, reports The Wrap.
The novel focuses on the “BFG” or "big friendly giant" who works with young orphan Sophie to halt the atrocious ways of fellow giants. On their journey, the Queen of England decides to join in the endeavor. Roald Dahl wrote the character of the Queen based on Elizabeth II, reports The Huffington Post.
The anticipated film has already made its way as a stage play as well as a 1989 U.K. film on ITV. The film directed by Spielberg will be the first big-screen appearance the story has seen.
In 2011, Dreamworks gained the rights to the film and directors such as Chris Columbus have been linked to the project.
Fans can expect “The BFG” to be shot in 2015 and released in 2016.
