The piece about Beyonce was written by Sheryl Sandberg, the founder of LeanIn.org and Facebook’s COO. Sandberg noted how Beyonce took the world by storm as only she could by secretly releasing BEYONCE without any promotion. The “Drunk In Love” singer has remained influential into 2014, with her sold out Mrs. Carter World Tour.
Beyonce earned a spot on one of the four black and white covers. According to USA Today, the other covers feature Redford, NBA player Jason Collins and GM CEO Mary Barra. Collins became the first active athlete in American sports to announce that he is gay, while Barra became the first woman to lead a major automaker.
“Happy” singer Pharrell Williams, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and tennis star Serena Williams joined Beyonce in TIME’s “Titans” section.
President Barack Obama provided a piece on Pope Francis, while Clinton wrote about Kerry. A piece on Clinton was written by Pakistani teen Malala Yousafzai. Actress Shailene Woodley wrote about John Green, the author of The Fault in Our Stars.
Other members of the film and music community that made the list include Amy Adams, Alfonso Cuaron, Steve McQueen, Carrie Underwood, Robert Lopez and wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Kerry Washington, Miley Cyrus, Benedict Cumberbatch, Seth Meyers and Megan Ellison.
